Over the next 10 weeks we’ll be looking at the revisions to NSW’s model by-laws, which come into force on November 30 2016. They won’t automatically affect existing owners, but it’s a great time to consider updating your strata scheme’s by-laws to take advantage of the changes.

As someone who’s realised they just missed the garbage truck can confirm, we don’t care about the rubbish until it has piled up. The by-laws on waste-disposal have become more prescriptive, here’s how.

How to take out the trash with by-laws

The Bondi ‘trash house’ is a frightening reminder of how much of a mess a single family can make. After years of fighting to arrange and pay for clean-ups to the tune of several hundred thousand dollars Waverley council is likely to face the same problems again in a matter of months.

Aside from a smell and rodent infestation that affects the neighbourhood, the house’s presence also makes the process of selling properties on Boonara Avenue a painful process with less of a reward than such prime property in the Eastern Suburbs should provide. Hoarders and dumpers aren’t confined to freestanding homes however, with a surprising number of strata scheme members unwilling to learn about or pursue cleanliness. Even garbage on a lot can be a problem if it’s serious enough to attract rats or spread disease.
